Healthy Old-Fashioned Granola Recipe (Free Printable) A Homemaker in the Kitchen

The unsatisfied homemaker, flips through her cook books, searching for something new. She is tired of always preparing the same foods for her husband and children. She knows they would like something different too.

She has been blessed with a kitchen and all the things a successful baker would need to provide delicious cuisine. So it would be a shame not to take full advantage of her blessings to create a special treat for her family from time to time.

“Healthy” is always on the homemakers mind when giving something to her household to eat. She searches for something wholesome, sweet but not too much sugar; something she will be pleased with, for her children to eat.

She comes across the perfect snack recipe and then sets to work. Adorned in her worn, old apron, she heads to the pantry to shop for the ingredients the recipe requires.

About an hour later a delicious aroma floods the home. The children all gather to the kitchen as they watch the homemaker pull her confection from the oven. How warm and delighted they all feel to have a homemade snack for them all to enjoy.

Once her baked goods have cooled, the homemaker serves everyone a portion and watches with anticipation. She sees a few of her childrens eyes light-up in delight. She beams as she serves herself a piece.

Now, the homemaker is satisfied.

I cannot guarantee that your family will enjoy this recipe as much as the homemaker’s did, especially for the picky eaters who don’t care for nuts. However, this granola is so super easy to tweek and make your own. You can simply add in or take away. Use the creativity God has blessed you with to experiment and try new things.

2-1/2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
1/2 cup sliced almonds
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (or more if you love cinnamon like I do)
Pinch of salt
1/2 cup coconut oil
2/3 cup honey
1 cup dried fruits (cranberries, raisins, cherries etc.)

  1. Preheat oven to 320 F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix the oats, almonds, pecans, walnuts, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, cinnamon and salt in
    a large bowl.
  3. Whisk together the honey and oil & Pour the mixture over the dry ingredients & combine.
    Spread the granola into the baking sheet & bake for 25-30 minutes.
  4. Stir & re-spread a few times during baking until the entire mixture is golden brown. (careful
    not to burn)
  5. Stir in the dried fruits. Then spread the mixture evenly & let cool to room temperature.
  6. Break up the granola & store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Enjoy as a snack, in
    cereal, greek yogurt or by itself. Good for 2 weeks.
